Mentorship Program
The Canadian Black Farmers Association is proud to offer a unique agricultural training program designed to equip participants with both practical skills and accessible knowledge. Our training combines hands-on learning opportunities at farm sites in British Columbia with virtual training available to participants across Canada, ensuring that distance is never a barrier to learning. The program focuses on sustainable farming practices, agri-business development, financial literacy in the agricultural sector, growing culturally significant crops, and building pathways to food sovereignty.
Participants also have the rare opportunity for one-to-one meetings with our founder, who has been one of the only Black farmers in Canada for over 24 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and lived experience. With more training sites across Canada to be announced soon, this is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in contributing to the future of farming, agri-business, and food security in Black, African, and Caribbean communities.
5 Acres+ Concept
The 5 Acres+ Concept is the Canadian Black Farmers Association’s bold next step toward building Black, African, and Caribbean food sovereignty in Canada. Inspired by the success of the Kara-Kata Africa Village Project, this initiative reimagines what small-scale farming can achieve, five acres+ at a time. It’s about more than crops and land; it’s about creating spaces where communities grow their own culturally meaningful foods, build generational wealth, and reconnect with traditions that nourish both body and spirit. With each acre, CBFA is laying the foundation for a powerful, self-sustaining food system designed by and for our communities.
Research to Advance Black Food Sovereignty
The Canadian Black Farmers Association is embarking on a bold new research initiative to advance Black food sovereignty and food security across Canada. We have assembled a dynamic team of agricultural experts, researchers, and innovators to lead this work. Together, we are developing new solutions, advancing research, and creating pathways for stronger, self-sustaining food systems.
If you are interested in participating in this project and feel you have skills or expertise to contribute, we invite you to reach out and explore how you can be part of this important journey.
