Tell us about yourself:
I am a mother, lawyer and business owner residing on Vancouver Island. I am most passionate about innovation and change and I believe that farming and growing our own food has the potential to change our lives in more ways than we can imagine. I believe that we have to take control over our food sovereignty and we must put in the work today to reap the benefits of tomorrow. When I look around and I do not see the black representation that I wish for in decision-making spaces and on tables that matter, I realise that it has never been more imminent for us to begin driving the change that we seek. If not us, then who? If not now, then when? Our future selves will thank us.
How long have you been farming and why are you interested in farming in Canada:
My family has a history of farming. My father grew many, different plants and raised many different animals. I have a passion for farming and I carry with me many of the life lessons that my father taught us through farming. I have always wanted to drive change and I believe I can do that through farming because farming has the potential to change everyone’s lives, whether in little ways or more significant/big ways. I want to take more control over my family’s lives through farming and food sovereignty. And I want to teach my children (and dare I say the communities around me) to have more control, freedom and independence over as many aspects of their lives as they can and this can be through growing your food where possible. I live a healthy lifestyle and growing some of what we eat is a great way to control our food.
